"The operators of the internet scam, who are thought to be in Britain and the Netherlands, had opened two main ticketing websites for the Beijing Games and registered 214 domain names, many of them with addresses that are similar to www.beijingticketing.com.
Hundreds of Australians have called a national hotline to complain that the tickets they ordered through professional-looking websites had not been delivered.
The websites have since been exposed as fakes.
A spokesman for the Beijing Olympics, Sun Weide, said international tickets had been sold officially through national Olympic committees only."
